For everyone who works with students in a UAE school: teachers, teaching assistants, learning support assistants, individual assistants, inclusion staff, coaches, bus staff and office staff. You will learn what ADHD is, how the UAE classifies it, who can diagnose it and how screening differs from diagnosis. You will learn how ADHD can affect attention, impulsivity, movement, organisation and emotions, and practise positive, practical support: clear instructions, small steps, routines, seating, planned movement breaks and agreed test arrangements. You will learn to respond to behaviour calmly within UAE behaviour rules, to work with your inclusion lead and the student's plan, to leave every medicine matter to the school clinic, and to work respectfully with families. You will also learn what to do straight away if you are worried about a student's safety. The course doesn't diagnose or label anyone. It is built on Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 on the national classification of disabilities, the Ministry of Education's inclusive education and behaviour rules, ADEK's and KHDA's inclusion guidance, the Abu Dhabi and Dubai health authorities' rules on medicines in schools, and Federal Law No. 3 of 2016 on Child Rights (Wadeema's Law). If your school has its own policies, follow them for the detail.

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It has three core features: inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. In a student with ADHD, these are much stronger than you would expect for their age, and they get in the way of school, home and friendships.
In the UAE, people with disabilities and long-term needs are called people of determination. In school, we say students of determination. A student whose ADHD has been formally diagnosed may be classified as a student of determination.
Talk about the student first, not the condition. Say "a student with ADHD", not "the ADHD boy". A need doesn't define a student. Use the condition's name only when it helps, and only with people who need to know.
If a student talks openly about their own ADHD, listen and respond positively. Follow their plan on who else needs to know.
Based on: Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 on the National Uniform Classification of Disabilities (annex: the ADHD category); the UAE Government's 2017 decision on the term "people of determination"; ADEK's School Inclusion Policy (version 1.3, definitions of a student of determination and of additional learning needs); KHDA's Implementing Inclusive Education guide (2019, page 16: a need "does not define the student"); and general good practice (the table and the reveal).
