For everyone who works with students in a UAE school: teachers, teaching assistants, inclusion staff, nurses, office staff, bus staff and sports coaches. You will learn what autism is, the strengths many autistic students have, and the myths to avoid. You will learn who may diagnose autism in the UAE (only licensed professionals, never the school), and what UAE rules say about support for autistic students of determination, including plans made with families and accommodations such as breakout times. You will practise clear communication, reducing sensory overload, preparing students for change, and supporting learning and tests. You will learn to notice anxiety and hidden distress, respond calmly and safely (including when a student hurts themselves), pass on what you saw to your inclusion lead, work with families respectfully, and send any worry about harm to your child protection lead straight away. The course is practical: it doesn't diagnose or label anyone. It is built on Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 on the national classification of disabilities, Federal Law No. 29 of 2006, the Ministry of Education's Inclusive Education Policy, KHDA's and ADEK's inclusion rules, and Federal Law No. 3 of 2016 on Child Rights (Wadeema's Law). If your school has its own policies, follow them for the detail.

This course is for all staff who work with students in a UAE school, from teachers and nurses to bus staff and sports coaches.
Autism is a difference in how a person's brain develops. It starts early in life. It affects how a person communicates and gets on with other people, and how they take in the world through their senses. Autistic students are among the students the UAE calls students of determination.
Autism looks different in every student. Some autistic students speak very little; others talk a lot about what they love. Some also have other needs, such as ADHD, anxiety or an intellectual disability.
Many autistic students have real strengths, such as deep focus on a subject they love, a good memory for detail, or noticing things that others miss. Start with what the student can do.
Be careful with any figure you hear for how many children are autistic. You don't need a number to help the student in front of you.
If you notice a change like this, pass what you see to your inclusion lead now.
Use the words the student and their family use. Some people say 'autistic student'. Others say 'student with autism'. Either way, see the whole student, not a label.
Based on: Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 on the National Uniform Classification of Disabilities (the autism category: a difference in development that starts early, affecting communication, social interaction and sensory perception, with repetitive behaviour); the Department of Health Abu Dhabi Autism Service Jawda Guidance (2026), on other conditions that can come with autism; international clinical guidance on signs that show at a change of setting; the Dubai autism clinical guideline as published (2024), which found no comprehensive UAE prevalence studies; and general good practice (strengths, the myths, words to use).
