For substitute and cover staff in UAE public and private schools, in every emirate, whether you cover one lesson or several weeks. UAE rules have no "cover supervisor" role, so this course shows you what covering a class really means: you supervise the work that has been set, check what your school has approved, and never plan, teach or assess on your own initiative. You will learn what each regulator expects of substitutes, the checks to make before you accept a booking (your approval and vetting, who the child protection lead is, and where the set work is), and why you check before you cover an Islamic Education, Arabic or Social Studies lesson. You will practise starting a lesson, using the school's behaviour system, getting help in a serious incident, reporting a child protection worry straight away, following the national code of conduct, and handing over. It is built on Federal Decree-Law No. 18 of 2020 on Private Education, Wadeema's Law, the national Code of Conduct for Education Professionals (2022), and ADEK, KHDA and Ministry of Education rules. Where your school or regulator sets more detail, follow it.

12 questions are selected for each attempt, one group per learning outcome. You need 80% to pass. If you do not pass, the feedback points you back to the section each question came from. You have 3 attempts to pass. A pass is never counted, so you can always take the course again once you have passed. 5 attempts that do not pass within 12 months close the assessment for 12 months.
An employer sees whether you passed and your certificate. They never see your answers, your scores or how many attempts you took.
11 sections you can read or listen to, and a certificate when you pass.
One section is open below. The other 10, the narration, the transcripts and the assessment come with Basic or Premium.
When a class's usual teacher is away, someone has to look after the class. This course calls it covering a class. You might be booked as a substitute teacher for several weeks, or asked to cover a single lesson.
This course is for anyone who covers a class: substitute teachers, staff placed by a company, and school staff asked to step in.
UAE rules have no "cover supervisor" role. ADEK and the Ministry of Education (for public schools) expect absent teachers to be covered by qualified teachers. Elsewhere, follow your school's lead and your regulator's guidance.
So whether you may look after a class, and what you may do with it, depends on your regulator and on what your school has approved for you. If you are not sure what that is, ask before the lesson, not during it.
Your job is to supervise the work that has been set. Never plan, teach or assess on your own initiative. If you are asked to do more, check first that you are approved as a teacher for that subject.
Based on: ADEK's School Staff Eligibility Policy (version 1.3, Substitute Teacher), ADEK's Employment Policy (version 1.1, sections 2.4.3 and 2.6.1), Cabinet Resolution No. 46 of 2017 on reserve teachers (Articles 2 and 3), KHDA Administrative Resolution No. 54 of 2025 (Articles 1 and 6), KHDA's FAQs on appointing teaching staff, and SPEA's FAQs on the permit to practise (no KHDA rule on substitute or cover staff was located); and general good practice (what covering usually involves, and the sort).
