For everyone who works with students in a UAE school: teachers, teaching assistants, learning support assistants and other staff, in public and private schools in every emirate. You will learn what specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia are under the UAE's national classification of disabilities, and why they are not a sign of low ability or lack of effort. You will learn who screens, who supports and who diagnoses, how to tell a learning difficulty apart from learning in a second language, and how to spot common signs in reading, writing, spelling, number, memory and processing. You will practise simple support in class, following the student's plan and keeping expectations high. You will also learn how exam help works, why you never promise an exam arrangement or an exemption, how to work with families without labels, and what to do straight away if a learning worry turns out to be a safety worry. The course is practical: you never diagnose, and it doesn't replace a licensed professional. It is built on Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018, the Ministry of Education's inclusive education rules, and ADEK's and KHDA's inclusion guidance. If your school has its own policies, follow them for the detail.

12 questions are selected for each attempt, one group per learning outcome. You need 80% to pass. If you do not pass, the feedback points you back to the section each question came from. You have 3 attempts to pass. A pass is never counted, so you can always take the course again once you have passed. 5 attempts that do not pass within 12 months close the assessment for 12 months.
An employer sees whether you passed and your certificate. They never see your answers, your scores or how many attempts you took.
13 sections you can read or listen to, and a certificate when you pass.
One section is open below. The other 12, the narration, the transcripts and the assessment come with Basic or Premium.
Some students find one part of learning much harder than the rest. A student may understand ideas well and speak with confidence, but find reading, spelling, writing or number very hard. This may be a specific learning difficulty, often shortened to SpLD.
The UAE's national classification of disabilities, Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018, has a category for specific learning difficulties. It describes a difficulty in the basic psychological processes used to understand or use spoken or written language. It can show in listening, thinking, reading, writing, spelling or calculation. The resolution names dyslexia as one of these difficulties.
The official text of the resolution is in Arabic. The wording in this course is our plain English summary of it.
The resolution lists signs such as slow or inaccurate reading, difficulty understanding what is read, spelling, written expression, number sense, calculation and mathematical reasoning. Difficulty with number is often called dyscalculia, and difficulty with writing is often called dysgraphia. KHDA's documents for Dubai schools use all three names: dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia.
Students with an identified specific learning difficulty are among the UAE's students of determination.
Never punish a learning difficulty as laziness. If you see a big gap between what a student can say and what they can write or work out, tell the class teacher or your inclusion lead now.
Based on: Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 on the national classification of disabilities (people of determination), specific learning difficulties category (our translation of the Arabic text; it lists the signs of number and writing difficulty without using the names dyscalculia and dysgraphia); Ministerial Resolution No. 647 of 2020 (specific learning difficulties as a category); KHDA's UAE School Inspection Framework (2015-16) and its guides on inclusive education; and general good practice (the table and the check).
