For everyone who works with students in a UAE school: teachers, teaching assistants, inclusion staff, nurses, office staff, bus staff and coaches. You will learn what speech, language and communication needs are, how the UAE's national classification describes communication disorders, and why support starts with the need, not a diagnosis. You will learn to spot the signs, including when a need is mistaken for not listening or poor behaviour, and how to tell learning a new language apart from a communication need in multilingual classrooms, without treating bilingualism as a problem. You will practise adapting how you talk, using visual support and communication aids, giving thinking time, and supporting students who stutter, including in tests. You will learn how to work with speech therapists, your inclusion lead and families, and what to do straight away if a student shows you, in any way, that they may be harmed. Staff never diagnose: only a licensed professional can. The course is built on Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018, Federal Law No. 29 of 2006, the Ministry of Education's inclusion rules, KHDA's and ADEK's inclusion guidance, and Federal Law No. 3 of 2016 on Child Rights (Wadeema's Law). If your school has its own policies, follow them for the detail.

You have 3 attempts to pass. A pass is never counted, so you can always take the course again once you have passed. 5 attempts that do not pass within 12 months close the assessment for 12 months.
An employer sees whether you passed and your certificate. They never see your answers, your scores or how many attempts you took.
13 sections you can read or listen to, and a certificate when you pass.

This course is for everyone who works with students. It is about students who find it hard to understand what is said, to put thoughts into words, to speak clearly, or to use language with other people.
Communication is part of almost everything in school: lessons, instructions, friendships, play and asking for help. So these needs can affect learning, friendships and behaviour.
These needs are often hidden. A student can look as if they are coping, while understanding much less than you think. Many learn to copy what others are doing.
A student whose communication disorder has been formally identified is a student of determination, the official UAE term. Use it, and name the need where it helps, for example 'a student who stutters'. Talk about the student first, not the label.
A student may tell you through a communication aid, a drawing, a change in behaviour or a few words. Take it as seriously as spoken words. If a student shows you, in any way, that someone may be harming them, tell your child protection lead straight away.
Based on: Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 on the national classification of disabilities (communication disorders: speech, including fluency and voice; language; social communication); the UAE Government's term 'people of determination' (2017); and general good practice (the table, the flipcards, the hidden-needs warning and talking about the student first).
