For everyone who works with students in a UAE school: teachers, teaching assistants, learning support assistants, office and other staff, in public and private schools in every emirate. You will learn who students of determination are under UAE law and the national classification of disabilities, and what the federal law and the Ministry of Education, ADEK and KHDA expect of every school, including admission. You will learn who does what, from the class teacher to your inclusion lead, how to recognise different kinds of need, and why support doesn't wait for a diagnosis. You will practise following a student's plan, telling accommodations apart from changes to what is taught, using inclusive teaching in every lesson, and responding fairly to behaviour linked to a student's needs. You will also learn how to work with families, protect privacy and dignity, and what to do straight away if you are worried a student may be harmed. The course is practical: you never diagnose, and it doesn't replace a licensed professional. It is built on Federal Law No. 29 of 2006, Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018, the Ministry of Education's inclusive education policy, and ADEK's and KHDA's inclusion rules. If your school has its own policies, follow them for the detail.

12 questions are selected for each attempt, one group per learning outcome. You need 80% to pass. If you do not pass, the feedback points you back to the section each question came from. You have 3 attempts to pass. A pass is never counted, so you can always take the course again once you have passed. 5 attempts that do not pass within 12 months close the assessment for 12 months.
An employer sees whether you passed and your certificate. They never see your answers, your scores or how many attempts you took.
12 sections you can read or listen to, and a certificate when you pass.
One section is open below. The other 11, the narration, the transcripts and the assessment come with Basic or Premium.
In the UAE, students with a disability, permanent or temporary, are called students of determination. The term comes from a UAE Government decision in 2017, which replaced 'people with special needs' with 'people of determination'. Use it, and use the words the family and the school use.
Federal Law No. 29 of 2006 sets out the rights of people of determination. It describes a person with a difficulty in their physical, sensory, mental, communication, learning or psychological abilities, which makes it harder for them to meet their needs in the same conditions as their peers.
Two things in this description matter for you. A difficulty can be permanent or temporary. And psychological needs are included, as well as physical, sensory and learning needs.
Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 sets out the UAE's national classification of disabilities. It has 11 categories:
The official text of the resolution is in Arabic. The names in this table are our plain English summary of it.
The Ministry of Education's inclusive education policy, for its schools, adds a twelfth category: health conditions.
ADEK, which regulates private and charter schools in Abu Dhabi, also uses a wider term: additional learning needs. It covers students of determination and any other student who may have a need that has not been diagnosed but makes it hard to learn without support.
Based on: Federal Law No. 29 of 2006 on the rights of people with special needs (Article 1), as amended by Federal Law No. 14 of 2009; the UAE Government's 2017 decision on 'people of determination' (u.ae National Policy for Empowering People with Special Needs); Cabinet Resolution No. 3 of 2018 on the national classification of disabilities (our translation of the Arabic annex); Ministerial Resolution No. 647 of 2020, the Ministry of Education's inclusive education policy (12 categories, including health conditions); ADEK's School Inclusion Policy (version 1.3, page 5: students of determination and students with additional learning needs); and general good practice (the grouping in the table, and the check).
